Oxford Circus is the meeting point of two of London’s busiest shopping streets, Oxford Street and Regent Street. Located in the middle of Theatreland, there is always something to see and do. Its popularity is well earned.
The area is great for pedestrians, having large amounts of money spend on its pedestrianisation, but also on the development of the area as a centre of entertainment within the city centre. Theatre
- The London Palladium: with more than a hundred years of history, the London Palladium is home to some of the world’s most famous theatre productions, including the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s adaptation of the Wizard of Oz.
- The Queen’s Theatre: home of one of the longest running stage shows, Les Miserable’s, you will recognise many of the songs you hear.
Night Life
- Metro: for those of you who love alternative club nights, the Metro is the perfect destination. Depending on which nights you visit, you can experience the deep base of the indie dance scene, or the heavy base of the rock scene, and contemporary pop music.
- Virgin and HMV stores: this may sound a little off the wall, but each of these shops frequently hosts music sets from the latest bands. Notable people playing at these stores include Razorlight and Lily Allen. They also have comic events, which have include key members of ‘The Mighty Boosh’.
Shopping
- Oxford Street: home of high street fashion in the UK, Oxford Street is where you will find many of your favourite shops, including Primark and Selfridges. You can spend hours (as well as a fair amount of money) visiting this street and you will certainly find fashion to suit even the boldest of tastes.
- Regent’s Street: this is definitely the place to bring Kids. You will find Hamleys toy store, the largest toy store in the UK, spread over seven stories: a fantastic day out in itself. There are also a number of high-end fashion shops, including Burberry.
- Bond Street: certainly more upmarket than Oxford Street, here you will find all the leading designer shops: Asprey, Alexander McQueen, Champer, Dior, D&G, Diesel, DKNY, Emporio Armani, Gucci, Joseph, Prada, and Yves Saint Laurent…to name but a few! It is also home to Tiffany & Co.as well as Buccellati, so certainly the place in London to come to find jewellery.
Food
- Le Gavroche: fine cuisine in a Michelin starred restaurant, definitely the place to come for a treat and a taste of luxury.
- The Scandinavian Kitchen: a restaurant with a twist, in England, they serve only Scandinavian food. Come here to try something a little different.
